IPL 2024 to Kick Off on March 22, Entirely Hosted in India Despite General Elections, Says Arun Dhumal
Chennai Super Kings lift the IPL 2023 trophy, their fifth title, in Ahmedabad last May.

Despite the concurrent general elections, the highly awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) is scheduled to start on March 22 and will take place fully inside the nation, league chairman Arun Dhumal said on Tuesday.

The major reason the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League schedule has not been released yet is because the elections are anticipated to take place in April and May.

According to Dhumal, the rosters for the remaining games will be chosen when the general election dates are published. The first 15 days of the calendar will be made public first.

It is anticipated that the Lok Sabha election dates would be revealed early in the next month.

"We plan to begin the competition on March 22. We will initially make public the preliminary timetable, and we are collaborating closely with the government authorities. According to Dhumal, the whole competition will take place in India.

The IPL was hosted entirely outside of South Africa in 2009, and because of the general elections, part of the 2014 tournament was held in the United Arab Emirates.

But in 2019, the competition took place in India in spite of the elections.

The final of the Indian Premier League is probably going to be on May 26, with the T20 World Cup starting on June 1. On June 5, India will play their first World Cup match in New York against Ireland.

The IPL opening match will, as usual, feature the victors of the previous season, the Chennai Super Kings, and the runners-up, the Gujarat Titans.

The 2024 season players' auction took place in December of the previous year. After being signed by Kolkata Knight Riders for a record-breaking Rs 24.75 crore, Mitchell Starc became as the league's most expensive player ever.
