Jasprit Bumrah Reprimanded for On-Field Incident as India Slips in World Test Championship Standings
Jasprit Bumrah.

Ollie Pope tried to sprint, but fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah purposefully stepped in his path. This was a level 1 infraction of the ICC Code of Conduct, and Bumrah has been given an official warning. On the fourth day of the first Test in Hyderabad, the event took place.

Bumrah received a demerit point for his first offense in a span of 24 months.

"The pacer was found to have breached Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to 'inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other person (including a spectator during an International Match'," the International Cricket Council said.

The event took place in England's second innings, in the 81st over. Charges were made by third umpire Marais Erasmus and on-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Chris Gaffaney.

Since Bumrah agreed to the punishment suggested by match referee Richie Richardson, there was no need for a formal hearing.

India drops to fifth place.

Following their 28-run loss to England, India fell to fifth place in the World Test Championship rankings, behind only Bangladesh.

Following the two-Test series in South Africa, India led for a short while before Australia passed them.

All set for the Super Six?

Bloemfontein: India's colts, who have won three straight games, will try to maintain their winning ways when they play their New Zealand counterparts in a Super Six match at the U-19 World Cup here on Tuesday.

India will have the added benefit of playing on Tuesday at the Mangaung Oval, where they have played all three of their current matches, having advanced to the super six stage as the top of Group A. Conversely, New Zealand came from East London and will need to swiftly adjust to the environment.

The fact that one or two Indian hitters have stepped up and produced is the finest thing about the squad. Musheer Khan, the third batsman, has shown the greatest consistency, and captain Uday Saharan will want to go on where he left off with some strong innings.

Left-arm pacer Naman Tiwari and left-arm spinner Saumy Pandey have been outstanding bowlers. Notably, New Zealand's bat performance has been lacking.

First kickoff: 1:30 p.m. (IST)
