Liverpool Return to Winning Ways, Klopp's Anfield Farewell Nears

Liverpool finally found some form in a 4-2 English Premier League victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday in much-loved manager Juergen Klopp's penultimate game at Anfield.

Strikes from Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, Cody Gakpo and Harvey Elliott secured a much-needed victory for Klopp's men, who had won one of their previous five league games and seen their title challenge crumble.


While still mathematically in with a chance finishing top of the pile, they are five points off leaders Arsenal in the table with two games remaining and four points behind holders Manchester City, who have a game in hand over both.

"It was a disappointing few weeks where the results were not what we wanted," Gakpo told Sky Sports. "Everyone wanted to do their best in the last few weeks but it didn't work. We wanted to enjoy it (Sunday), play for goals, defend together and it was a good result."

Liverpool talisman Salah, who had a touchline row with Klopp in last week's 2-2 draw with West Ham United, headed home his 18th league goal of the season when he sprinted onto Gakpo's diagonal cross to the far post in the 16th minute.

Robertson doubled their lead with a tap-in just before half-time after keeper Guglielmo Vicario saved an initial shot from Salah.

Pedro on target

Joao Pedro struck a late winner as Brighton put a dent in Aston Villa's Champions League hopes.

The Brazilian headed home a rebound in the 87th minute after his penalty was saved by Robin Olsen during the English Premier League match.

Having suffered a disappointing loss to Olympiakos in the Europa Conference League on Thursday, Villa missed the chance to strengthen their hold on fourth with two matches left.

Jackson double

Chelsea boosted their chances of European football next season, thumping West Ham 5-0, with Cole Palmer, Conor Gallagher, Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson, with two, all getting on the scoresheet.

old Palmer latched on to a loose ball after a Madueke cross in the 15th minute and shot into the far corner across West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.

Captain Gallagher also took advantage of a loose ball in the area following a tackle on Madueke and lashed his chance home on the half-hour.

Madueke turned from provider to scorer, and back, either side of half-time. He poked home in the 36th minute and teed up Jackson for Chelsea's fourth in the 48th.

Jackson scored his second 10 minutes from time.

The result raised Chelsea to seventh in the table overtaking Manchester United, who play Crystal Palace on Monday, and putting them within striking range of qualification for the Europa League.
