The Lucknow Super Giants have never lost an IPL game when they have scored 160 or more. With a 33-run victory over the Gujarat Titans at home on Sunday, their bowlers—especially Yash Thakur—made sure the script didn't change.

This edition of the Ekana International Stadium's relaid surface has been much better for strokeplay, but Lucknow's 163/5 total after they chose to bat first didn't seem like a very good score.

Sai Sudharsan of PTI Titans, who was elevated to the opening position due to Wriddhiman Saha's absence due to a back spasm, and captain Shubman Gill provided them a strong start as they quickly reached 54/0 in just six overs of their response. Due to a side strain, Lucknow's best player, Mayank Yadav, was only able to bowl one over, raising doubts about their chances.

However, Mayank's absence was more than made up for by Yash, the other pacer. After capturing Gill, he went on to account for Vijay Shankar, Rashid Khan, Rahul Tewatia, and Noor Ahmad, concluding with a 5/30 score. Between, Krunal Pandya (3/11), who maintained a conservative pace the entire way, gave his team the advantage by causing Gujarat to collapse following the Powerplay.

Marcus Stoinis (58) top-scored earlier for Lucknow, who are currently third in the league, while Nicholas Pooran (32 not out) delivered a few blows at the end to help them beyond 160.
