Manuel Neuer Sets Sights on Euro 2024 Success

Manuel Neuer, the goalkeeper for Germany, isn't wasting time debating his previous performances; instead, he claims that internal study is underway in preparation for Wednesday's second Euro 2024 Group A match.

Since the 2010 World Cup, Neuer has been the unquestioned number one for Germany, but in recent games, such as Bayern Munich's loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League semifinal, he has not looked like a world-class player.

After a disastrous World Cup first-round exit in Qatar, the 38-year-old fractured his leg while skiing in December 2022. He did not play again until November.

However, coach Julian Nagelsmann of Germany chose Neuer as their tournament starter, benching Marc-Andre ter Stegen, 32, once more.

Neuer said at a press conference on Monday, "To be honest, I have been watching it (the debate) from the outside."

"I didn't read anything, and I actually always operate in this manner.

"We talk about everything internally with the relevant parties. We watch the tapes and assess everything according to what we see in them. I therefore did not stop thinking about this argument.

Shortly before the competition in Germany started, Ter-Stegen expressed his sadness, but he also stated he was accepting of his duty and would give the squad his whole support.

"What matters is trust, and there is a great deal of trust between teammates and the coaching staff," Neuer stated. "And the Scotland match was my main focus, followed by the remaining group matches."

On Wednesday, Germany will play their second match against Hungary, who lost their first match 3-1 against Switzerland.

"We are getting more focused and concentrated as we get ready for the Hungary game," Neuer stated. "From the beginning against Scotland, we looked dominant.

But our feet are firmly planted. Now that we are more confident, Hungary will be a different ball game.
