Miller Backs Troubled Gill as Gujarat Titans Struggle

Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill is finding it difficult to adjust to his new job, but veteran batter David Miller supported him, stating the 24-year-old is "adjusting" to it more and more.

The Titans, who finished second in the previous season behind Hardik Pandya and champions in 2022, are presently sitting in ninth place in the standings and have little chance of making the postseason under Gill's leadership.

"Shubman, as we all know, is an amazing player. He still has a lot of learning ahead of him. However, I think he's settling in rather nicely as captain.

In his post-match press conference, Miller stated, "But I feel it's a tough one too because the margins are so small." On Saturday, GT lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru by four wickets.

Miller also cited their ineffectiveness with the ball lack the Power Play as coming from the absence of veteran pacer Mohammed Shami, who is recovering from ankle surgery.

It's clear that Shima excelled in the power play. Since he took wickets and kept the economy rate low, we feel as though we are missing him somewhat in the power play, Miller said.

The Titans conceded 92 runs in the Power Play despite only needing to defend 148, which firmly swung the game in the home team's favor.

With just 23 runs made in the Power Play, the Gujarat squad's performance was lackluster and also the lowest of any team this season in that specific segment.

Among the 10 teams in this IPL, GT has the lowest power play run-rate (7.54) and strike-rate (118.43). They have also scored the fewest runs (469) in the first six overs.

The left-hander from South Africa acknowledged that the Titans had struggled at the top, both with the bat and the ball.

"The lengths of the RCB bowlers were far superior than ours. However, in the first two, two and a half, and three overs, when they were already up 50–60 runs, we just missed our length.

"It appeared as though the GT bowlers were a tad too full. With our batting and bowling, I believe we were a little bit behind the 8-ball on the power play," he said.

When discussing the Titans' current record, Miller pointed out that they haven't been able to win close games, an area in which the team has thrived in recent years.

"There were a few games that we did lose, but they were very close games that we could have won. Things would have been quite different if we had won those two games.

"We just haven't been able to win those critical moments this year, which is why we've lost the close games," he continued. "We won crucial moments (last year).
