According to Umar Ansari, the son of the gangster-turned-politician who passed away on Friday morning from cardiac arrest in a hospital in Banda, Uttar Pradesh, Mukhtar Ansari was slowly poisoned while incarcerated.

Authorities have refuted the claim.

As to Suneel Kaushal, the principal of Rani Durgavati Medical College in Banda, Mukhtar Ansari was taken there from the district prison in "an unconscious state" and passed away on Thursday due to a heart attack.

The 63-year-old Mau Sadar native served as an MLA five times. Since 2005, he has been incarcerated in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. There were more than sixty active criminal cases against him.

Since September 2022, Mukhtar Ansari has been found guilty in eight counts by various Uttar Pradesh courts and has been detained in the Banda prison. His name was included on the Uttar Pradesh Police's list of 66 criminals from the previous year.

Umar Ansari informed reporters, "My father had told us he was being subjected to'slow poison.'" He further said that everyone in the nation is now aware of it.

Afzal Ansari, the MP for Ghazipur and brother of Mukhtar Ansari, said on Tuesday that his brother was experiencing "slow poisoning" while incarcerated.

People had gathered at the home of Mukhtar Ansari on Friday morning. Security guards were stationed in significant numbers both at the hospital and surrounding the residence.

"We are unaware of the scheduled completion date of the postmortem. Our hope was that the corpse would be given to us in the morning after the postmortem was completed throughout the night. Media: "I don't understand why the administration is dragging it out," Mukhtar Ansari's older brother Sibgatullah Ansari said.

In response to a question about Umar Ansari's "slow poisoning" allegations, he said, "Mukhtar Ansari had informed the court through his lawyers in writing that these things are happening." Large-scale gatherings are prohibited under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), and districts like Banda, Mau, Ghazipur, and Varanasi have seen the deployment of extra security guards in addition to prohibition orders.

Mau-born Mukhtar Ansari was also said to wield considerable sway over the nearby districts of Ghazipur and Varanasi.

He complained of vomiting and was sent to the medical college on Thursday night at 8:25 p.m., unconscious, according to a medical bulletin. It said that despite the care of a group of nine physicians, he passed away from cardiac arrest.

According to representatives at the Lucknow police headquarters, Ansari's post-mortem would take place in Banda and be captured on camera. They indicated that if necessary, the viscera would be kept.

Ansari had earlier complained of stomach ache and was admitted to the hospital for almost 14 hours on Tuesday.

Prashant Kumar, the director general of police for Uttar Pradesh, said on Thursday that teams of the Central Reserve Police Force, in addition to local police, have been deployed in Banda, Mau, Ghazipur, and Varanasi, and that prohibitory orders under section 144 of the CrPC have been issued across the state.

According to the police head, the Uttar Pradesh Police's social media unit has also been turned on to closely monitor any illegal activity on the internet.
