AAP Alleges ED Acting as BJP's Political Weapon, Targets Kejriwal's Phone
Atishi Accuses Enforcement Directorate of Targeting AAP's Election Strategy
Senior AAP leader Atishi said on Friday that the Enforcement Directorate is acting as the BJP's political weapon and that it wants to access Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's phone in order to get information on the AAP's Lok Sabha election plan.
The federal investigative agency detained Kejriwal, the national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), on March 21 in connection with a money laundering case involving the Delhi excise policy. Kejriwal will remain under investigation by the agency until April 1. At a news conference here, Atishi said that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is acting as a "political weapon" of the BJP because of its insistence on looking into Kejriwal's cell phone, which is just a few months old and did not exist when the policy was created and put into effect.
"Actually, it is the BJP and not the ED that wants to know what is there on Kejriwal's phone," said the AAP politician, who is a minister in the Kejriwal administration.
She said that the chief minister's current phone is just a few months old and that the excise policy was put into effect in 2021–2022.
According to Atishi, the ED claims that Kejriwal's phone at that time is no longer accessible and that it now needs the passcode to his new phone.
"They want it because they will find in it details of AAP's Lok Sabha poll strategy, campaign plans, talks with INDIA bloc leaders and information regarding media and social media strategy," she said.
To oppose the BJP in the parliamentary elections, a number of opposition parties, including the AAP, the TMC, the Congress, the DMK, and the SP, have formed the alliance.
The 2021–22 policy was canceled in response to claims of corruption.
