Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews Shine as Mumbai Dominates RCB
In their Women's Premier League encounter here on Saturday, the Mumbai Indians defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by seven wickets thanks to the seamless coordination of their spinners and hitters.
The victors were off to a brilliant start as Yastika Bhatia (31 off 15 balls, 4x4, 2x6) and Hayley Matthews (26 off 21 balls, 3x4, 1x6) combined for 45 runs in an opening partnership in only 3.5 overs.
The batsmen who followed took advantage of the launchpad and won handsomely, scoring 132 runs off of 29 balls remaining and moving up to the top of the table with six points.
The Mumbai bowlers showed composure as they held the RCB to a meek 131 for six.
With a boundary off pacer Renuka Singh in the first ball, Bhatia set the Mumbai chase ablaze. The arrival of Sophie Molineux encouraged her to step up her aggressiveness even more.
The left-hander drove the left-arm spinner beyond point for a four after smashing her for a six over the deep mid-wicket.
Had Wareham (27 off 20 balls, 3x4) and Elysse Perry (44 not out off 38 balls, 5x4) not contributed 52 runs for the sixth wicket, RCB might have been in more serious danger earlier.
For the second straight game, Mumbai was without their usual captain Harmanpreet Kaur and their best pacer Shabnim Ismail due to injury.
