Nail-Biter in Hyderabad: Sunrisers Snatch One-Run Win from Royals
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Nitish Kumar Reddy plays one on the off-side during his innings of 76 not out off 42 balls against Rajasthan Royals in Hyderabad on Thursday

At the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Thursday, Sunrisers Hyderabad narrowly defeated Rajasthan Royals by one run in a match that fluctuated like a pendulum.

After winning the toss and deciding to bat first, the Sunrisers amassed a daunting 201/3 thanks to youthful player Nitish Kumar Reddy's undefeated 76 off 42 balls, as well as support from Heinrich Klaasen (42 not out off 19 balls) and opener Travis Head (58 off 44 balls).

In response, Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed both skipper Sanju Samson and batsman Jos Buttler in the opening over for the Royals. They made a fantastic comeback from 1/2 thanks to Yashasvi Jaiswal (67 off 40 balls) and Riyan Parag (77 off 49 balls). Though Jaiswal and Riyan were dropped on seven and 24, respectively, they had their fair share of luck.

Even after dismissing Dhruv Jurel in the penultimate over of the match, Sunrisers captain Pat Cummins bowled four dot balls, which allowed them to claw their way back into the game. The Royals needed 13 off the final six balls, but only managed to muster seven in that over.

The Royals thought they had a chance since Rovman Powell was still at the crease. They would have become the first club in this IPL to guarantee a postseason berth with a victory. However, with two required from the last ball, Bhuvneshwar (3/41) trapped Powell leg before wicket with a full-length, well-directed delivery.

For Bhuvneshwar, it was a game of dreams as he eliminated Buttler, Samson, and Powell, three batters who have the ability to alter the course of a game with one blow. Even though he may no longer be needed by Team India, Bhuvneshwar showed that he is far from done.

The Sunrisers have climbed to fourth place in the standings while the Royals were forced to wait for a postseason berth.

Reddy, a 20-year-old medium-pace bowler for Andhra cricket, had earlier produced a strong performance with three boundaries and as many as eight sixes. His aggressiveness and lack of fear in the face of experienced leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who let up 62 runs in four overs without picking up a wicket, were also noteworthy.

Head, the opener, made a significant impact alongside Reddy after sitting out the previous two games against Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Klaasen deserves some of the credit as well, as his undefeated cameo gave the Sunrisers innings the boost it needed in the last overs to take the team total over 200.

However, the Sunrisers' start versus the table-toppers wasn't good at all. Trent Boult, a left-arm quick, and Ravichandran Ashwin, an off-spinner, opened the proceedings for the Royals, and both made sure that neither Head nor his opening partner Abhishek Sharma were taken for granted.

After four overs, the Sunrisers were 25 runs ahead of the opposition without losing. However, they were immediately reduced to 35/2 in the sixth over when Avesh Khan removed Abhishek and Sandeep Sharma removed Anmolpreet Singh.

In a scenario like this, the Royals could have easily set the conditions. However, Head performed admirably when his team needed him to, while Reddy also gained confidence and ended with a blow that gave the Sunrisers bowling attack some hope.

After that, Bhuvneshwar handled the outcome with a flawless finish.
