The Premier League announced on Tuesday that Nottingham Forest's attempt to overturn a four-point deduction for violating its profit and sustainability regulations (PSR) during the 2022–2023 season was unsuccessful.

Forest filed the appeal after they faced relegation following the March deduction. With two games remaining, they are now three points above the bottom three in the rankings, in 17th place.

The Premier League said in a statement that "an independent Appeal Board has upheld the decision of a Commission to deduct four points from Nottingham Forest following an admitted breach of the Profitability and Sustainability Rules."

Forest had acknowledged going over their allotted maximum loss of £61 million ($76.51 million) by £34.5 million. Top flight English clubs are permitted to lose £105 million over a three-season period. But Forest could only lose a maximum of £61 million because they played in the second-tier Championship for two of their evaluation period.

According to Forest, the commission ought to have suspended part or all of the points docked for the attacker Brennan Johnson's sale following the assessment period as a "mitigating factor."
