New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips during his innings of 87 on Day III of the second Test against Bangladesh on Friday.

On Day III of the rain-affected second Test match between New Zealand and Bangladesh on Friday, Glenn Phillips played an attacking knock that helped to level the score.

With the help of Phillips' 72-ball 87, New Zealand amassed 180 runs in their opening innings to take an eight-run lead. After that, New Zealand's bowlers abandoned Bangladesh at 38/2, and play was abandoned because of poor lighting.

In their opening innings, the hosts were dismissed for 172 runs.

New Zealand resumed at 55/5 after the entire second day and the first session of the third day were washed out. Phillips spearheaded the charge with one-day style batting.

In order to maintain the run rate, Phillips was especially harsh on Mehidy Hasan, hitting three fours and one six in his opening three overs. Phillips finished his innings with nine fours and four sixes.

In order to help New Zealand take the lead, he formed two important partnerships: for 49 runs with Daryl Mitchell for the sixth wicket and for 55 runs with Kyle Jamieson for the eighth. Mitchell was having trouble with the spinners and was eventually caught off guard by Mehidy for eighteen off of Nayeem Hasan at long on.

Nayeem took 2/21 in his next over and dismissed Mitchell Santner for 1 to leave New Zealand at 97/7, but Jamieson helped Phillips hold off Bangladesh.

Jamieson made twenty, but Shoriful Islam (2/15) broke through with his wicket. New Zealand overtook Bangladesh's total thanks to a four and a six from captain Tim Southee, who finished with 14 runs.

Ajaz Patel, a left-arm spinner, made a favorable start for New Zealand by dismissing opener Mahmudul Hasan (1-13). The scoreboard was kept updated by captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and player Zakir Hasan.

However, Shanto was dismissed by Southee after he chipped one straight to midfield, where Kane

Williamson seized the simple opportunity.
