Rail Connectivity Disrupted in Northeast Post-Kanchenjunga Express Collision

Following the collision between the Agartala-Sealdah Kanchenjunga Express and a goods train near the Rangapani station on Monday morning, there was some disruption to the railway connectivity between the Northeast and the rest of the country.

Numerous trains stopped at various stations on either side of the Darjeeling district accident scene. The accident site was around 3 kilometers away from the Padatik Express, which was traveling from Sealdah to New Alipurduar.

24 trains were rerouted via Aluabari, Siliguri Junction, and New Jalpaiguri (NJP), according to railway officials. There were three cancelled trains. The railroads set up a rescue train to transport people safely from NJP to Sealdah. While the first relief train arrived at the accident scene from NJP, another one arrived at the location from Alipurduar Junction.

In order to transport the Kanchenjunga Express passengers to their destination, NBSTC also dispatched ten buses to the location.

"More buses will run from Siliguri to Calcutta," NBSTC chairman Partha Pratim Roy declared.

At 5:40 p.m., train movement along the Up-track, which is used by trains from Calcutta to travel to NJP and the Northeast, was resumed.

Following the crash, a large number of passengers were waiting to board trains at various stations in north Bengal that were headed for Calcutta and NJP when the train traffic was thrown off the rails.
