Serial Pitch Invader Jarvo Breaches Security at World Cup Opener
Virat Kohli and security staff talk to pitch invader Daniel Jarvis, better known as Jarvo, during Sunday’s match in Chennai.

A serial pitch invader broke through security at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday before India's World Cup opener against Australia.

As the Indian and Australian cricket teams prepared for the national anthems before the start of play, Daniel Jarvis, aka Jarvo, who had made headlines for repeatedly breaking security and entering the ground during India's tour of England in 2021, exposed gaps in the stadium security.

Jarvo, who was wearing India blues, managed to go inside and even exchanged a few words with Virat Kohli, who wasn't amused at all by the situation, before being stopped by a groundskeeper inside the stadium.

Later, he returned to the field undetected before India's keeper-batsman KL Rahul pointed out the exit.

It was discovered that Jarvo, who was already barred from playing on English grounds, had been detained, was subsequently released, and will no longer be permitted to participate in ICC competitions. But how did he get around the ostensibly strict security measures?

After the occurrence, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) was undoubtedly embarrassed. He appears to have come from the stadium's historically significant Madras Cricket Club area. The CCTV cameras deployed there can reveal if there was one security lapse or another, a TNCA officer told The Telegraph.

The issue will also be reviewed by the association at its review meeting on Monday. "We hold a review meeting following every international game when we discuss every aspect of the game. Whatever the issue, problem, or whatever. This will also be covered at the meeting tomorrow (Monday)," the TNCA representative continued.
