Shoaib Bashir Overcomes Visa Hurdle, Shines on International Debut in Second Test Against India
Shoaib Bashir after dismissing Rohit Sharma, his first Test wicket, on Friday.

Shoaib Bashir was not able to participate in the first Test match of the series against India in Hyderabad due to issues with his visa.

The 20-year-old, nevertheless, had maintained his composure during the standoff, which prevented him and his colleagues from leaving for India in time for the first Test.

"I never had any concerns since I believed I would be granted the visa.

Yes, it was a little inconvenient, but at least we're here now. After stumps on Day I of the second Test, Bashir, who finished with 2/100 from 28 overs after dismissing India captain Rohit Sharma and Axar Patel, said, "I've made my (international) debut and that's all that matters."

To be honest, I was feeling very at ease. I was sure it would be resolved. Thus, we are grateful to the BCCI and the ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board) for immediately resolving the issue.

Despite having a respectable start, the off-spinner's maiden day of international cricket proved difficult for him as India's undefeated hundredth player Yashasvi Jaiswal spared almost no yard if Bashir made a mistake in line or length. Nevertheless, he chose to highlight the good things, and the fact that captain Rohit was removed from the game made him feel "incredible."

"This day has been really amazing. It was much more memorable to remove Rohit Sharma because of all I've gone through in the last two to three years. It did feel amazing to have him as my first wicket.

Bashir said, "He's a great player, one of the best in the world, and a great player of spin as well."

Speaking of his conversation with Ben Stokes, the England captain, Bashir stated: "He essentially simply said, 'Remember why you began playing the game, remember your family. Take a risk and demonstrate your abilities. Go ahead and do what you do best; we already know and have seen you.

"Those words really gave me a boost in confidence."
