Siliguri Police and SMC Set Up Helpline Numbers for Tourists During Holiday Season

Helpline numbers have been established by the Siliguri Metropolitan Police and Siliguri Municipal Corporation to facilitate a hassle-free visit for tourists throughout the holiday season.

The police released two helplines on Thursday: 0353-2551242 in the Bagdogra police station's airport outpost and 0353-2691413 in the New Jalpaiguri police station.

A police official stated, "Our staff will respond to calls placed at the helpline numbers and provide tourists with any necessary assistance while they are traveling."

On the other side, the SMC's helpline (7557035194) will open on October 19.

Mayor Gautam Deb stated, "It will be open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. until October 25."

Deb convened a meeting on Thursday to discuss the arrangements for the Durga Puja at the SMC. Attending the conference were representatives of tour operators, state tourism, subdivisional information and cultural affairs, police, and regional transport office officials.

Deb stated that he asked transport department authorities to take the appropriate action to ensure that tourists do not experience issues such as being overcharged by taxi drivers when they arrive at transit locations.

Additionally, he directed representatives of the state-run North Bengal State Transport Corporation (NBSTC) to provide bus services for the Kalimpong district all the way to Lava and Loleygaon.

Since there is no direct road connection from Siliguri to Kalimpong and Sikkim via NH10 due to the flash flood, the bus service will be helpful to tourists who wish to visit Kalimpong or Sikkim, the mayor stated.

Beginning next week, thousands of tourists will pass through important transit hubs in and around the city, where help kiosks staffed by the police and the local authority will also be present.

According to sources, the SMC will set up booths at Tenzing Norgay Central Bus Terminus and the New Jalpaiguri railway station, while the police will build up booths at the Bagdogra airport and railway station.
