Siliguri Residents Seek Relief from Level Crossing Woes, NFR Official Makes Promises

over Monday, a senior Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) official visited a few areas in Siliguri to discuss local concerns such the need for a level crossing's upkeep and the desire for an overbridge over railway lines.

Sanjay Chilwarwar, the assistant divisional railway manager (ADRM) of the NFR based in New Jalpaiguri, visited Bagrakot near Siliguri Town station, and Fuleswari, which has a level crossing. Railway authorities and Siliguri BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh joined him.

There has long been a need for an underpass or an overbridge to link the region with Deshbandhupara on the other side of the tracks at Bagrakot, where there is an unmanned level crossing.

Even with a two-wheeler, we are unable to cross the rails, so we must make a lengthy detour to go to the other side. This everyday difficulty is experienced by hundreds in Bagrakot and Deshbandhupara. The railroads have to take the demand into account and build an overpass or an underpass, according to Bagrakot resident Shyamal Barman.

The ADRM should take into account the inhabitants' need for more convenient transportation, according to MLA Ghosh.

He promised to give the matter some thought and to examine the demand's technical feasibility while keeping the security of railroad operations in mind. We're hoping that the problem may be fixed," Ghosh said.

The ADRM promised to investigate the possibility of building a food overbridge over the lines. "A survey for a foot overbridge will be carried out by us. Within a kilometer, there are two level crossings in the area: Mahabirstan and Fuleswari. Safety concerns must also be taken into account," the official said.

He also made it to Fuleswari, where on Monday, work on repairing the concrete pavers at the level crossing began. The task will conclude in a fortnight. Residents should utilize the underpass for the time being, he said.
