Sneak peek of Ritabhari Chakraborty X Club Salon Calendar 2024 that launches today

The Telegraph spoke with the multihyphenate actress for an annual adda ahead of today's presentation of the Ritabhari Chakraborty X Club Salon Calendar 2024, discussing the issue she has been examining this year, her ideal woman in movies, and her life motto.

What is the calendar's topic for this year?

In movies, we're honoring style and beauty across the years. Let's say a style honoring Zeenat Aman and Parveen Babi, or a tribute to Rita Hayworth or Doris Day, whose red carpet ensembles were sophisticated but casual. Additionally, there is Mandakini, Dimple Kapadia, and Deepika Padukone. We created a look that is almost Bobby-esque. Bobby seems sexy and fun to me. In addition, Marilyn Monroe's Hollywood glitz and drama are noteworthy. I also created an outfit that is really representative of our age, which has myself, Alia Bhatt, and Mimi (Chakraborty) wearing fur and a corset.

While we haven't exactly aimed for the style, we have attempted to convey the spirit of the time. I've been a member of the Club Salon staff for five years. When we first began, it was unique. Based on my observations over the last five years, Club Salon and my connection have endured longer than many marriages! (Laughs aloud)

The intention was to take on a project that is integral to my identity as an actor. This is an homage to many forms of beauty in film over the years. We're also producing a sizable portion this year to give out to supporters and non-industry members alike. It is intended to become a tool for others to use as a calendar, to join us on our journey, and to begin the year with us.

Personally, I see this as a chance to get to know everyone and let them know that I care about them and that they are a part of both of our life. It's a pleasant way to begin the new year.

Have you chosen a group of individuals who motivate you?

Indeed. Since this is a collaborative project, we took care to ensure that the style we discussed reflected a personality recall rather than being old or retro. Kiara (Sen) is the stylist. Photographers Siladitya Dutta and Bipradip Chakraborty have made sure that the images are dramatic. Tanaya and Abinash (Bhowmick) did the hair, while Babusona (Saha) did the makeup. The Novotel Kolkata Hotel and Residences is where we filmed it.

These women are so much more than the iconic figures or heroes of the times that shaped who they are. I have specifically chosen ladies whose glam personas are well-known and respected, and who are highly regarded not just for their skill but also for their beauty and sense of style.

Regarding women in film, who do you believe have broken the rules throughout the years?

The ladies I've already listed, in my opinion, have all broken rules in different ways. Some defy social norms in the fashion industry, while others select roles they wouldn't choose for themselves as leads, at a certain age, or after marriage. And some people definitely breach the law simply by being. I became aware of how much emphasis is placed on the idea that actresses and women are only valuable in their youth while working on the calendar. They are forgotten about as they become older.

What's intriguing or lovely about an aging Audrey Hepburn or Doris Day is that you can see who they were in their sense of style and how they put things together. You see actors, including myself, in a variety of looks. The most beautiful thing about women, in my opinion, is when they really come into their own at a certain age. When Kate Winslet isn't working, you'll notice that she wears a distinctive outfit. Also, I believe that accepting your comfort factor has a particular charm.

You are descended from a powerful female family. In comparison to you, how do you believe they see women?

Filmmaker Satarupa Sanyal, my mother, has a soft spot for genuine women who accept their perceived imperfections and look good without makeup. I also really love that, and if that weren't the case, I never would have done Fool for Love, Brahma Janen Gopon Kommoti, or Fatafati with Anurag (Kashyap), nor would I have done my next movie, Grihastha. However, I also like the glamorous aspect of being a hero and being portrayed in a fantastical manner. My body is my instrument, and my interpretation of how to adorn it will be that.

And lastly, what will be Ritabhari's catchphrase in 2024?

My motto remains constant. Be considerate and mind your own business. It is difficult to be a nice person every day, but I make an attempt to live up to my idea of what that means.
