South Africa Edge Past England by 7 Runs in T20 World Cup Thriller
South Africa's Quinton de Kock watches the ball after playing a shot during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup cricket match between England and South Africa at Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, Saint Lucia, Friday, June 21, 2024.

In their Group 2 Super Eight encounter at the T20 World Cup, South Africa defeated England by seven runs on Friday, thanks to a brilliant fifty from Quinton de Kock and valiant bowling from the country's bowlers in the face of having to defend a low total.

Despite De Kock's 38-ball fifty-six, England had done well to restrict South Africa to 163/6, but they were beaten despite a valiant effort by Harry Brook (53), Liam Livingstone (33), and others. In the end, they were 156 for six.

England rallied admirably, led by Brook and Livingstone, but South Africa maintained composure in the face of numerous mistakes to maintain their winning run at this World Cup.

Ottneil Baartman struck many of full-tosses as 21 runs were removed in the 17th over, but England was still far from their goal—46 runs were needed to win from the last four overs. However, in the 18th over, Kagiso Rabada (2/32) demonstrated his class by catching Livingstone (33 off 17b, 3x4s, 2x6s) at deep backward square leg.

Brief scores: England 156/6 in 20 overs (H. Brook 53, L. Livingstone 33; K. Maharaj 2/25, K. Rabada 2/32); South Africa 163/6 in 20 overs (Q. de Kock 65, D. Miller 43; A. Rashid 1/23, J. Archer 3/40). By a score of seven runs, South Africa prevailed.
