Tragic Bus Accident in North Dinajpur Claims Two Lives, Injures Twenty

North Dinajpur, West Bengal - A tragic accident involving a North Bengal State Transport Corporation (NBSTC) bus claimed the lives of two passengers and left at least 20 injured on Saturday morning in North Dinajpur district.

The bus was en route to Siliguri from Calcutta when the driver lost control on NH27 at Manora, an area under the jurisdiction of Chakulia police station. The bus turned on its side, causing significant injuries to the passengers on board.

Local residents rushed to the scene to assist the passengers in exiting the bus. A team from the Kanki police outpost also arrived promptly to aid in the rescue efforts.

The deceased have been identified as Rita Biswas, 52, and Indrani Roy, 70, both residents of Calcutta. Their loss has left their families and the local community in mourning.

According to police sources, at least 20 passengers sustained injuries in the accident, with four of them in critical condition. The critically injured passengers were initially rushed to Kishanganj Medical College & Hospital in Bihar. They were later shifted to North Bengal Medical College & Hospital in Siliguri for further treatment.

Several other injured passengers received treatment at a local health centre, helping to alleviate the strain on the larger hospitals.

The police have seized the vehicle involved in the accident and have launched an investigation into the cause of the incident. As the community comes to terms with this tragic event, the focus now turns to ensuring the swift recovery of the injured and preventing such accidents in the future.
