Tragic School Bus Accident in Ranchi, Jharkhand: A Wake-Up Call for Road Safety

A school bus carrying thirty pupils from Ranchi, Jharkhand's Mandar block sadly overturned in the hamlet of Chund on a Saturday morning, injuring sixteen children.

According to police sources, the bus driver lost control of the vehicle at 7:30 am while allegedly on a phone call, leading it to veer and capsize in a nearby field.

Rahul Kumar, the officer-in-charge at Mandar police station, reported that one of the students had to be taken to RIMS in Ranchi for an MRI scan due to a head injury. The rest of the injured students received medical treatment at Constant Lievens Hospital in Mandar and have since been discharged.

The motorist left the site of the collision without saying anything. The pupils were being transported to St. Maria School in Chund, which is about a kilometer from the scene of the tragedy. The local residents acted quickly and broke open the bus door to save the youngsters.

Shilpi Neha Tirkey, Mandar MLA, visited the hospital and the school after the occurrence. She claimed to have previously written to every school in her area, urging them to hire drivers or buses only after thoroughly vetting their credentials.

The bus was 45 minutes behind schedule, according to parents who asked to remain nameless, and they said this was why it was speeding.

Champai Soren, the chief minister of Jharkhand, expressed his sorrow about the disaster and gave the government instructions to make sure that all wounded pupils received the necessary medical attention.
