The makers of Arna Mukhopadhyay's first feature film, Athhoi, which is based on Othello by William Shakespeare, unveiled the teaser on Thursday. The film, which is being financed by SVF and Jio Studios, will open in theaters on June 14.

"Athhoi, tomakeo thokte hobe..." #Athhoi: Official Trailer | June 14 쥤 sees it on the big screen The film, which has a duration of two and a half minutes, was directed by #ArnaMukhopadhyay, creative director @AnirbanSpeaketh, SVF stated on X.

Anirban Bhattacharya, who plays Gogo and is modeled after Iago from the original play, plays the title role with Arna. Desdemona-inspired persona Diya is taken on by Sohini Sarkar.

The trailer captures Shakespeare's exploration of human emotions, presenting themes of love, betrayal, and competition against a contemporary setting. It is set in the made-up village of Virasuna. In the first scene in the teaser, Gogo attempts to incite Athhoi, a member of the marginalized community, by drawing attention to historical atrocities against Dalits and the ongoing humiliation they experience on a daily basis.

Next, Athhoi's wife Diya is introduced in the trailer. Gogo suggests an affair between Diya and Athhoi's reliable friend Mukul (Arpan Ghoshal) in an attempt to cast doubt in Athhoi's mind. An otherwise morally pure and principled Athhoi is shown in the trailer losing his temper.

"Athhoi is a labor of love that has taken years to bring to fruition," Arna remarked, expressing his opinion on the trailer. Our objective is to explore the intricacies of human emotions and offer a contemporary retelling of Shakespeare's classic story.

"We knew exactly how we wanted to construct this Shakespearean world from the start. Our crew worked really hard from pre-production to post-production, and every shot division was carefully planned," said Anirban Bhattacharya, the project's creative director.

Sohini Sarkar underwent a radical transformation when she played Diya. "I was able to delve into the depths of human fragility and resiliency in this profession. "Athhoi" is a genuinely immersive experience since it asks viewers to think and feel," the speaker stated.

Athhoi's ensemble cast also features Mimi Dutta, Sumit Panja, Ditipriya Roy, and Koushik Banerjee. Amit Chatterjee wrote the music for Athhoi, while Subhadeep Guha composed the background score. The movie's cinematographer is Soumik Haldar.
