Trinamul Congress member arrested for suspected role in BJP activist's death

For his suspected role in the Wednesday night immersion procession in Nadia district that resulted in the death of BJP activist Adhir Sarkar, a Trinamul Congress member was taken into custody on Thursday.

Sarkar, a 65-year-old man from Baro Jiakur village, was killed at the Aarpara market in Santipur after being forced out of the procession by several young people.

Gokul Das, the subject of the arrest, was mentioned in a police report that Sarkar's son had submitted. At Baro Jiakur, Sarkar served as vice-president of the BJP booth committee.

Suvendu Adhikari, a BJP politician, urged authorities to act impartially and called for the swift arrest of everyone implicated in the murder. On Thursday, he honored Sarkar at Ranaghat.

The head of the Opposition said that BJP workers were "paying price with life" because they had worked so hard to defeat Trinamul in the July 8 panchayat elections and accused the police of being inactive.

In response to Adhikari's claims, Trinamul state general secretary Kunal Ghosh said that a "internal dispute" was the reason of the BJP supporter's death.

It wouldn't be shocking for a @BJP4Bengal Karyakarta to become a victim of the internal conflicts and enmity that have been growing among the party ranks in recent months, Ghosh wrote on X.

"In any event, the police are looking into the situation thoroughly and will prosecute anyone who are at fault. He said, "The LoP should hold off on sensationalizing the situation and speculating without any basis."

In a protest over Sarkar's death, BJP supporters closed NH12 near Phulia for almost two hours earlier in the day.
