Trinamul supporters clash in North Dinajpur, two injured

A fight between two factions of Trinamul Congress supporters in North Dinajpur on Friday resulted in two injuries.

According to sources, internal party strife is to blame for the violent occurrences that have shook Kamalagaon-Sujali panchayat under Islampur block in recent months.

Abdul Haque, a panchayat member, and Jahidul Rehman lead two Trinamul lobbies that frequently battle for control of the region.

Some of Rehman's supporters reportedly went to Haque's family's home in Kamargach village on Friday morning and demanded money.

Those from Rehman's group attacked Haque's family members with sharp weapons when they protested. Haque's wife, Anjuma Khatun, suffered injuries after being stabbed with a knife. The incident also caused injuries to another person. The attackers then left the area.

After being taken to the Islampur subdivisional hospital, the two are receiving medical attention.

After the incident, Haque's loyal Trinamul supporters gathered in the village. When the Islampur police came, they stabilized the situation.

There were police posts around.

The district president of Trinamul, Kanaialal Agarwala, has refuted the claim that factionalism is rife within the party. "There are no disagreements inside the party. It was an unwanted event. Police were asked to apprehend all assailants.
