Wild Leopard Strangled in Alipurduar, Forest Department Suspects Locals

The forest department believes the wild leopard, which was discovered dead in a field in the Alipurduar area on Sunday, was strangled.

The animal's body was discovered in the Uttar Dalgaon forest village, which is within the Falakata police station's jurisdiction.

The body was removed by foresters for a post-mortem.

The animal seemed to have been captured by some people, who then strung a rope around its neck to kill it. This is a regrettable occurrence. A forester said, "Those responsible for the animal's death will face legal repercussions once a police report was made.

According to sources, the autopsy revealed the animal had died.

In several parts of Falakata and the nearby Birpara-Madarihat blocks, there has been an increase in reports of leopard assaults.

These assaults have resulted in the deaths of at least three people, including young boys. However, these spaces also house four caged leopards.

The foresters believe that some locals may have been irritated by these assaults, leading them to engage in similar behavior.

"The death of the leopard has been verified. After then, the body was disposed of in the corn field since there was no object or proof discovered there. The chief conservator of forests (wildlife, north), Rajendra Jakhar, said that the police will investigate our allegation.
