17 Life Sentences in Odisha Burning Death Case

17 persons were given life sentences by a court in the Jajpur district of Odisha for the three-year-old burning death of a couple on suspicion of practicing magic.

Jajpur Road Additional District and Sessions Judge Hrusikesh Acharya fined each of the 17 individuals Rs 10,000 on Thursday after finding them guilty in the case.

In the late hours of July 7, 2020, a group of locals stormed into the home of Shaila Balmuj and Sambari Balmuj in Nimapali hamlet in the Kalinga Nagar district, accusing them of sorcery.

The guy and his wife were killed by burns when they subsequently set fire to their home.

Following the examination of twenty witnesses and other pieces of evidence, the court rendered its decision, as stated by public prosecutor Rajat Kumar Rout.
