Aamir Khan’s Unique Way to Energize Lagaan’s Climax Shoot Revealed
Aamir Khan as Bhuvan in Lagaan.

According to a BTS video released by his production company on Tuesday, Bollywood actor Aamir Khan entertained the locals during the filming of Lagaan's climactic scene by singing the Ghulam hit Aati Kya Khandala. This was done in an attempt to obtain authentic footage for the film's final match-winning sequence, which was nominated for an Oscar in 2001.

Aamir Khan Productions captioned the Instagram video, "What went behind the climax scene of Lagaan."

Aamir appears in the video, which the producers have dubbed "madness in the desert," as his Bhuvan persona, wearing a kurta and dhoti. He croons Aati Kya Khandala, holds a microphone, and grooves to the song. Many people watch from a distance and applaud the actor. "Crowd was growing restless, even rowdy, and then Aamir walked in," the background voiceover continues. In the footage, individuals can be heard clapping and whistling before rushing in Aamir's direction.

This is used by the filmmakers in the final scene, as Bhuvan's cricket team triumphs over the British squad. The scene in the movie where the villagers race towards Bhuvan is a potent display of support and solidarity, demonstrating the resilience of their group spirit in the face of hardship.

In Lagaan, the British colonial era in India's drought-stricken region's peasants are subjected to excessive levies, or "lagaan." They challenge the British to a cricket match in an attempt to lessen the burden; if they win, taxes are excused; if they lose, they must pay three times as much. The people, led by Bhuvan (Aamir), join together via sports, overcome obstacles, and ultimately defeat the colonists.

The Ashutosh Gowarikar-directed movie, which also starred Rachel Shelley as Elizabeth Russell and Gracy Singh as Bhuvan's love interest Gauri, opened in theaters on June 15, 2001.

Paul Blackthorne plays the tough and commanding British commander, Captain Andrew Russell. Suhasini Mulay, Rajendra Gupta, and Kulbhushan Kharbanda are more well-known cast members who play important roles in the local society.
