Shashank, Ashutosh Fall Short as Punjab Kings Lose Thriller to Sunrisers
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar celebrates after dismissing Punjab Kings captain Shikhar Dhawanfor 14 in Mullanpur on Tuesday.

Ashutosh Sharma and Shashank Singh gave Punjab Kings yet another chance at an unlikely win, but they were defeated in Mullanpur on Tuesday by a mere two runs.

After the Punjab Kings were reduced to 114/6 in the 16th over, Sunrisers Hyderabad, who were chasing 183, appeared to be in control. After then, Shashank and Ashutosh teamed together and almost pulled off the same victory over the Gujarat Titans.

Shashank had come in at 70/4 in the ninth over while chasing 200 against the Titans. He made Rashid Khan and other bowlers look average with his undefeated 61 off 29 balls.

Shashank arrived on Tuesday with the necessary rate at approximately 12 and over. Ashutosh finished at 33 not out of 15, while he finished at 46 not out of 25. Under intense stress, the unbroken duo managed to put up 66 off just 27.

It was good of T. Natarajan to let up just 10 in the 19th over. Ashutosh blasted the first and second balls from Jaydev Unadkat for two sixes with 29 needed off the final over. Unadkat lost three catches, but in the end he remained composed.

Out of the final two balls, eleven were required. Even though Ashutosh managed to survive with a single off the penultimate delivery, Shashank's six off the final ball proved to be insufficient in the end.

Nitish Kumar Reddy, 20, had previously performed admirably for the Sunrisers. The Andhra hitter, in his debut IPL match earlier this month, foiled the Chennai Super Kings with a six off Ravindra Jadeja.

His fireworks were the main reason they were able to reach 182/9 on Tuesday. In the first half, the ball was flowing, and Sunrisers were down to 66/4.

Reddy started off slowly then gained speed. After hitting 14 off 18 balls at one point, he went on to hit 64 off 37 balls, which featured five sixes: two off Kagiso Rabada and one off Harpreet Brar.
