Amitabh Bachchan Shares Trailer of Srijit Mukherji's "Oti Uttam" Featuring Uttam Kumar's Grandson
Amitabh Bachchan praises Bengali filmmaker Srijit Mukherji’s upcoming romcom Oti Uttam

The teaser for Srijit Mukherji's forthcoming film Oti Uttam, which stars Amitabh Bachchan in a pivotal role and incorporates previously shot material of Bengali matinee hero Uttam Kumar, creates a deeper connection with the late actor.

"The first movie ever to include a main character created entirely from pre-existing footage. Proud of Uttam Kumar... Oti Uttam, Amitabh said on X not long after Camellia Productions released the extended teaser on March 1.

Reposting Amitabh's remark on Instagram, Srijit expressed gratitude to the Bollywood icon, stating that the team values his message much. "We are very grateful to @amitabhbachchan sir for this," the 46-year-old filmmaker tweeted.

Oti Uttam, starring Roshni Bhattacarya and Anindya Sengupta, combines magical and romantic aspects. Scenes from Uttam Kumar masterpieces such as Sagarika (1956), Saptapadi (1961), Naayak (1966), and Brojobuli (1979) can be seen throughout the three minutes and eighteen-second trailer.

Krishnendu (Anindya), a student, is seen in the trailer completing his PhD thesis on the late Bengali singer. He is blindly infatuated with Sohini (Roshni), a girl who rejects him. Disappointed, Krishnendu turns to paranormal assistance, calling upon his idol's soul in a seance and urging him to play cupid.

When Krishnendu is hurt in a bar fight, the roles are reversed. When Krishnendu awakens, he finds Sohini in his room, prepared to admit that he is a "very kind person." As their relationship becomes stronger quickly, Krishnendu chooses to expose Sohini to Uttam Kumar's soul.

In an unexpected turn of events saved for the conclusion of the trailer, Sohini's declaration that she has fallen in love with Kumar's soul causes Krishnendu's world to spin once again.

Oti Uttam, which is hosted by Rupa Datta, also stars Sonia Gupta, Jina Tarafdar, Subhasish Mukherjee, and Laboni Sarkar.

The movie is scheduled to open in theaters on March 22.
