Bangladesh Upsets Sri Lanka in a Thrilling T20 World Cup Opener
Bangladesh's Rishad Hossain bowls during the men's T20 World Cup cricket match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh at Grand Prairie Stadium, Grand Prairie, Texas, Friday, June 7, 2024.

Bangladesh started their T20 World Cup campaign with a victory, defeating Sri Lanka by two wickets. Before veteran Mahmudullah Riyad kept his composure in a tough chase, young leg-spinner Rishad Hossain took 3/22.

In a respectable surface, Rishad's three wickets in seven deliveries broke the backs of the Lankans, limiting them to 124/9. After reaching 70/2 in 8.4 overs, Sri Lanka lost seven for 54.

The 21-year-old, who made his World Cup debut and won Player of the Match, bravely attacked the game.

"When I go out to bowl, I never watch left- or right-handed bowlers. I am conscious of the need to meet the expectations of the team. I have no problem with someone being left- or right-handed.
