Maldivian President Accepts Invitation to Indian PM Modi’s Swearing-In Ceremony

Maldivian President to Attend Indian Prime Minister’s Swearing-In, Signaling Positive Bilateral Ties

In a significant gesture of diplomatic goodwill, Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu has announced his intention to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. This move is seen as a testament to the strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.

President Muizzu’s decision comes after accepting an official invitation from the Indian government, marking a pivotal moment in the Maldives-India relationship. The ceremony, scheduled for Sunday, will see Modi take the oath of office for his third consecutive term as Prime Minister.

The invitation was extended by Munu Mahawar, India’s High Commissioner to the Maldives, during a courtesy call at the President’s Office. Prime Minister Modi, through the High Commissioner, expressed his eagerness to have President Muizzu present at the ceremony, which is expected to be a grand affair with leaders from various neighboring countries in attendance.

President Muizzu reciprocated the sentiment, expressing his honor in being part of such a historic event. He also conveyed his anticipation for future collaborations with Prime Minister Modi to further enhance the close ties between the two countries.

The office of President Muizzu, however, has not yet disclosed the details of his departure for India.

Earlier this week, President Muizzu congratulated Prime Minister Modi on his electoral victory and expressed his desire to work together towards mutual prosperity and stability. This upcoming visit will be President Muizzu’s first official trip to India since taking office last November, a visit that is expected to underscore the positive trajectory of Maldives-India relations.

The swearing-in ceremony is not only a celebration of India’s democratic process but also a reflection of India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy, aiming to foster strong and amicable relations with its surrounding nations.

As the Maldives and India embark on this new chapter, the international community watches with interest, anticipating the potential for greater cooperation and shared success between the two countries.
