Bihar Police Allegedly Shoot Dead Two Suspects in Encounter After They Killed Constable

Patna: Two people were allegedly shot by Bihar police on Monday after they were apprehended and turned over to them by a mob for the suspected murder of a constable in the Vaishali district.

"The two miscreants attempted to flee from the police car while we were transporting them to the town police station. They were killed in the ensuing encounter.

"They lived in the Gaya district and were responsible for the death of one of our employees.

"We are unaware of their motivation. Vaishali Sadar sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Om Prakash informed reporters that an investigation was underway.

Prakash declined to provide more information, stating that he would do so later.

Police sources identify the two people who were slain in the alleged encounter near a highway beneath the Sarai police station on Monday afternoon as Bittu Kumar and Satyaprakash, also known as Upendra Kumar.

For a post-mortem, their bodies have been taken to the district hospital.

A police squad from Sarai police station was inspecting cars earlier in the day at a checkpost next to a UCO Bank branch at Surat Chowk. The team was led by assistant sub-inspector Sanjay Kumar.

Three people on a motorcycle were stopped by the police, and they attempted to leave the area on foot.

Officers pursued them after one of them fired multiple shots, four of which struck Constable Amita Bachchan Kumar.

The policeman collapsed to the ground, and his fellow officers took him to a private hospital in the area, where they pronounced him dead.

The escaping miscreants were pursued by the locals, who caught two of them.

After turning them over to the police, they were slain in a "encounter."

The murdered police officer was a Munger district native who enlisted in the force in 2015. His commitment to his work was well-known.

His spouse and two kids are left behind.
