Kumar Sangakkara Hails Jos Buttler as Premier White-Ball Opener Despite Kohli's Run Feast
Jos Buttler is, in the opinion of Rajasthan Royals head coach Kumar Sangakkara, the best white ball opener in all of cricket. Virat Kohli may be topping the IPL statistics with 316 runs as an opener.
Despite Kohli's ninth IPL hundred, Rajasthan easily defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru by six wickets thanks to Buttler's return to form with a 58-ball-100 not out.
Sangakkara responded, "Jos is the best white-ball opener in the world, and all he needed to do was sit back and ignore some of the noise," when asked about the England limited overs captain's return to form. Buttler acknowledged that there was concern because to his recent poor performance.
"Those tensions and worries persist no matter how long you've played the game. Sometimes you simply have to tell yourself that everything will work out.
"Just keep working hard and diving in; eventually, everything will work out. I felt great after the last game, even though I think I only scored 13 or something. Riding high on Kohli's century, RCB scored 183/3, but it took the Royals 19.1 overs to equal the score and record their fourth consecutive victory.
Captain of the RCB, Faf du Plessis, acknowledged that they needed to score 15 more runs, but he also said that their batting improved in the second half.
"Towards the end, I thought we could have maximized ten or fifteen more. You could see that it played much more nicely with the dew, so it was a terrific toss to win."
