Tennis is more than just a pastime to Tashi Duncan, Zendaya's character in Challengers; it's a romance. This serves as the basis for Luca Guadagnino's sports drama, which explores the nuances of tennis to demonstrate how it reflects the ups and downs of life in general.

Guadagnino transforms the tennis court into a setting where intimate dramas take place. He is renowned for his sensuous storytelling in movies like I Am Love, A Bigger Splash, and Call Me by Your Name. Characters compete against their ambitions and fears as well as one another in this metaphorical game of sports. In Challengers, we are introduced to three people whose lives took different turns following a common past. When their destinies collide again, a mixture of rivalry and unresolved feelings arises.

Former best friends in boarding school, Art Donaldson (Mike Faist) and Patrick Zweig (Josh O'Connor), are now rivals on the court. As Art struggles with a losing run, his coach and partner Tashi (Zendaya) devises a scheme to boost his self-esteem by entering a lesser-known competition, the 2019 Phil's Tire Town Challenger in New Rochelle, New York, where Art is unlikely to encounter formidable opponents. When Patrick, a long-lost relative from their past, shows there, the plan backfires and the shaky balance they had created is upset.

We find out that Tashi Duncan, a tennis prodigy, enchanted Patrick and Art when they were in college. Unable to decide between the two, Tashi declared she would date the winner of a singles match between them. After a fight that ends with Patrick winning, Art becomes envious and resentful of Patrick when he and Tashi start dating.

Tashi's infatuation with tennis soon starts to interfere with her relationship with Patrick, and her aspirations of becoming a professional player are dashed when she gets hurt on the court. Tashi moves to become Art's coach. After getting married, Patrick leaves their lives, only to reappear at the Challengers competition thirteen years later. The story takes place against the backdrop of this competition, when old grudges are reopened in the fervor of the match.

The investigation of the darker sides of human nature, where ambition obfuscates the distinctions between friends and foe, lies at the heart of Challengers. Tashi, Art, and Patrick are so motivated by their own interests that they frequently put their own interests ahead of empathy. Their unwavering quest for achievement leads them into ethically dubious areas.

Zendaya commands every scene she is in, solidifying her place as one of Hollywood's best young actors. Her on-screen connection radiates intimacy, passion, and tension throughout, whether she is paired with Josh or Mike. You should also be wary of Josh and Mike's on-court rivalry and bromance. The soundtrack is another powerful element that permeates the entire movie. The throbbing techno sounds of the Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross score provide an adrenaline rush, whether you're playing tennis or indulging in other passionate moments in bed.
