PM Modi Calls for Legal Cell to Aid Victims of SSC Scam in West Bengal

BARDHAMAN-DURGAPUR — Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing an election rally here on Friday, announced his directive to the West Bengal BJP unit to establish a separate legal cell. This initiative is aimed at providing assistance to “genuine teachers and candidates” who have lost their jobs due to the School Service Commission (SSC) scam.

Modi expressed his desire for those involved in the corruption by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) to face punishment, but emphasized his concern for the innocent victims of the scam. “The corruption that the TMC has done in Bengal in school recruitment is shameful. Due to this scam, several genuine candidates have suffered,” he said.

The Prime Minister assured that the BJP will support such honest candidates, providing them with legal help and fighting for their cause. “This is Modi’s guarantee,” he affirmed.

These remarks come a week after the Calcutta High Court declared the recruitment process of the State Level Selection Test-2016 (SLST) in West Bengal government-sponsored and aided schools as “null and void.” The court ordered the cancellation of all appointments made through it, resulting in job loss for around 26,000 people.

The establishment of a separate legal cell and social media platform is expected to provide much-needed support to the affected candidates and teachers.
