Director Adam Wingard believes it's intriguing to release "Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire," a movie that doesn't follow a linear history, at a time when Marvel Studios is kind of beyond its prime.

In reference to the recent underwhelming box office performance of superhero movies and television shows with intertwined storylines and character arcs, the American director claimed that a "vacuum" under Marvel Studios would be filled with monster movies, a la "Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire."

Directing "Godzilla Vs. Kong" as well, Wingard claimed that things were different when he took on the role of director for the 2017 MonsterVerse movie.

"I began this entire journey in this year, 2017." The film industry has changed significantly since then, and it's fascinating to note that Marvel has, in some ways, reached the pinnacle of its success and is no longer as popular as it once was.

"A void of sorts exists right now. In an interview with PTI, the 41-year-old director stated, "It's kind of an exciting time to be making a series or pictures that are not necessarily episodic or the storyline is continuous in that kind of cinematic universe kind of way."

Wingard continued, "There's a lot of excitement because Godzilla, the iconic reptile from prehistory, has never been more popular."

It's an intriguing time to be a cultural observer since Godzilla is kind of more popular than he has ever been. The fact that you have my film, 'Monarch,' the TV series, and 'Godzilla Minus One,' "he remarked.

The director claimed that the monster genre has a huge global fan base due to its versatility from an entertainment and symbolic perspective.

"There is always still something to read into but at the end of the day, the emphasis is on having fun." Larger-than-life figures being brought to life on a grand scale is also unusual, according to Wingard.

These are the 300-foot-tall figures, and with each film, we are allowed to approach these creatures rather than keep them at a greater distance. They remain the same size yet emotionally grow closer to us in many ways." The filmmaker claimed that when viewers watched the two iconic characters—Kong, the enormous gorilla—join hands momentarily in the film's plot, "Godzilla Vs. Kong," the precursor to "Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire," they had a "powerful reaction."

According to Wingard, he intended to explore this promise of a cooperative effort in the sequel.

The summary states that Godzilla and Kong have to band together to battle an as-yet-unidentified foe that poses a threat to both the Hollow Earth and the surface.

"You truly couldn't, at least not for the time being, separate the two characters again as soon as I viewed the movie with the audience. It was not possible to just make a Godzilla or Kong movie as a sequel.

"I became aware throughout the last movie that the team-up held great promise, and that's kind of where this idea originated. I intended to introduce a villain that, for various reasons, would seem intimidating to both Godzilla and Kong." That's where "Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire"'s brand-new character, the Scar King, was conceived.

Since Godzilla and Kong collaborate but aren't exactly pals at the conclusion of the previous film, Scar King needed to be a foe who could be both.

"They are still monsters and there is a bit of truce but once that truce is broken... Like, if Kong comes to the surface where Godzilla is still guarding everything, they're gonna have problems with each other," he stated.

The filmmaker claimed that Scar King, a massive ape, symbolizes a "dictator-type character" who has been given human characteristics.

"I wanted a villain who, in a way, represented the realities of our day. Above all, this is a highly entertaining monster action movie. However, the Scar King would be an important figure since he sort of stands in for this menace, which can only be represented by someone who possesses some human characteristics.

"Power is something that no monster has ever craved before. That's what makes him special because, regardless of how evil they may be, they frequently follow their impulses, Wingard remarked.

Starring in "Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire" are Fala Chen, Kaylee Hottle, Alex Ferns, Dan Stevens, Rebecca Hall, and Brian Tyree Henry. On March 29, Warner Bros. India will open the movie nationwide.
