Fleming: India Needs Clear Plan, In-Form Players for T20 World Cup
Chennai Super Kings’ Shivam Dube in this IPL.

Stephen Fleming, a five-time IPL champion coach and former captain of New Zealand, feels that India should select their in-form players based on their chosen style of play for the forthcoming T20 World Cup.

The fact that India hasn't won a major international tournament in almost a decade has, in a sense, kept aging stars like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the mix despite mounting clamor for the inclusion of younger players.

What interests me is the kind of strategy they intend to employ during the World Cup. When questioned whether Shivam Dube was ready for a call-up to the World Cup squad, Fleming replied, "What have they identified as the right style of play for India in an away condition?"

Then, instead of just selecting players and attempting to devise a strategy, insert them into it. Fleming stated, "I would choose the players that are in form and can play the part that will best win that design after considering the type of play that I would like.

Being an Indian selector is undoubtedly one of the most difficult tasks in international cricket, isn't it? As a New Zealander, he was, on the one hand, extremely envious of the quality on display and the way new players seemed to emerge every game.

"I adore Dube's strength. I mean, I'm biased, right? However, I believe that if you have a somewhat different power like that, you should have him on your side.
