Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Teaser Unveils Spengler Family's Return to New York
(L-R) A still from Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire trailer

In the video released by the film's creators on Tuesday, the Spengler family makes a return to New York to join forces with the original Ghostbusters and prevent a second Ice Age from destroying the planet.

In the two minutes and 39 seconds that make up the teaser, a few new characters are introduced alongside those from the original 1984 film, which starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts. It all begins when the Spengler family and Grooberson, played by Paul Rudd, return to New York and find a wellspring of evil inside the former Ghostbusters headquarters. To counter the menace, the veteran and novice fighters must now work together. We also get a peek of the malevolent "Death Chill," whose breath has the power to freeze the whole planet and command an army of ghosts.

The teaser, which mixes humorous moments with intense action, emphasizes the comic relief provided by Rudd's character Mr. Grooberson, who plays Phoebe's science instructor and is dressed in jumpsuits. The famous four from the original 1984 cast—Murray, Aykroyd, Ramis, and Hudson—played scientists who quit their professions to start Ghostbusters, an organization dedicated to fighting ghosts that lurked throughout New York.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, which is helmed by Gil Kenan, is scheduled to open in theaters everywhere on March 22. It will be a follow-up to Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021), which presented the Spengler family, consisting of Trevor and Phoebe, the offspring of Carrie Coon's single mother Callie. They found out they were related to the Ghostbusters after relocating to a home her father had left behind.

In the new film, Mckenna Grace plays Trevor Spengler's sister Phoebe, while Stranger Things actor Finn Wolfhard plays the same character.
