India's U-19 World Cup campaign got off to a great start on Saturday in Bloemfontein, as they defeated Bangladesh by an impressive 84 runs.

India's left-arm orthodox Samy Pandey (4/24), captain Uday Saharan (64) and opener Adarsh Singh (76) orchestrated this victory, allowing their opponents to be bowled for 167 in 45.5 overs after they had posted a competitive 251/7.

After being put in, India's start wasn't too auspicious as they lost both opener Arshin Kulkarni and third man Musheer Khan with only 31 runs scored in the eighth over. However, Adarsh and skipper Saharan settled in and produced an important third-wicket partnership of 116 runs, which gave India the foundation for a large total.

With the loss of both set batsmen, Bangladesh retaliated, lowering India's scoring pace. India was on the verge of not making even 250, but thanks to some fast runs from keeper-batter Aravelly Avanish (23 off 17 balls) and unbeaten 20-ball 26 Sachin Dhas, India managed to surpass the 250 mark.

India gained some additional runs as a result of Bangladesh giving away 23 more runs. The early wides from India's bowlers also helped Bangladesh get off to a strong start with 38/0 in the seventh over.

But in the tenth over, Pandey's twin strike sent Bangladesh down to 41/3, and they were unable to rally after that. That's even after a 77-run fifth-wicket partnership between Mohammad Shihab James (54) and Ariful Islam (41).

India U-19 251/7 in 50 overs is the short score. (Uday Saharan 64, Adarsh Singh 76; Maruf Mridha 5/43). MS James 54, S. Pandey 4/24, Bangladesh U-19 167 in 45.5 ovs. India U-19 prevailed by 84 runs.
