The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has received praise from Kapil Dev for enforcing the "much-needed" stringent measure of requiring the national players to dedicate time to local cricket.

On Wednesday, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer were cut off from the BCCI's core contracts for defying the Board's order to participate in the Ranji Trophy. Reactions to the verdict were divided; Irfan Pathan, one of the former players, said that the Board hadn't treated certain other players with the same severity.

Indeed, a small number of players may suffer, but as the saying goes, "some people will feel hurt but let it be because nobody is bigger than the country." Bravo," Kapil said.

"I applaud the BCCI for taking the crucial action to preserve domestic cricket's standing. The captain of the 1983 World Cup-winning team said, "I was sad to see domestic cricket being given the skip by players once they had established themselves in international cricket."

According to Kapil, it is the established players' responsibility to promote the game on the home circuit. "I've always supported the idea that professional athletes should declare themselves eligible to represent their home countries. It facilitates their ability to assist domestic players. It's also a great chance to give something back for the state association's assistance in developing a player, he said.
