Koffee With Karan Season 8 Premiere: Highlights, Lowlights, and What We Learned About Ranveer and Deepika
Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh – were the guests of the first episode of Koffee With Karan Season 8, streaming on Disney + Hotstar.

Following a lackluster season one earlier this year, producer-director Karan Johar, like the majority of his devoted viewership, felt that he had to hit the "redo" button for his well-liked celebrity chat show, Koffee With Karan. This week, Karan returned with Season 8 of the show onDisney+ Hotstar, emphasizing that it has "evolved."

With the exception of a few relationship-related disclosures, the season's premiere, which starred "Bollywood royalty" Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, essentially provided a review of everything we already knew or had heard about the famous couple. Fun details revealed by the couple on the show included the fact that they dance till 4am on weekends to their favorite songs and that Ranveer says in Deepika's ear to get her to flash "that angelic smile" (it would be hilarious if the audience could sample a few).

Here are some things we learned for the first time about Ranveer and Deepika as well as the highlights and lowlights from the first episode of Koffee With Karan this season.

Karan Johar runs the danger of emphasising himself.

Karan talked for a long time, almost to the point where he might have revealed too much personal information on the television. His shocked response made it hard to believe that he was unaware of Ranveer and Deepika's covert engagement in the Maldives in 2015. After seeing the never-before-seen footage from the couple's 2018 wedding in Lake Como, Italy, Karan broke down later on the show. Being alone and without anybody to share "the nothings of the day" with was something he bemoaned. Like Ranveer and Deepika, the filmmaker hoped to one day share his unique narrative. Karan later discussed a similar "legit attack" during Deepika's speech regarding her mental health issues during the recently held opening night of the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre. Later, when Ranveer talked about how his perspective had changed about going overboard with bright clothing, Karan also mentioned how he regretted his wardrobe choices and referred to it as a significant "mid-life crisis" time.

In the wedding video, shuttle legend Prakash Padukone wins over hearts.

The champion badminton player Prakash Padukone talked about how his son-in-law Ranveer loved his daughter Deepika and how he was first the odd man out in the Padukone household. "We don't say much. The four of us make a rather dull family. Still, I believe it's a positive move. He said, "He will bring some life," grinning broadly—a smile that his stunning daughter had inherited. Once more, the happy expressions of Deepika's family members—Prakash, mother Ujjala, and sister Anisha—in the backdrop reflected an authentic feeling as Ranveer put his hand on her shoulder to swear he would be with her forever.

Without makeup, Deepika looked stunning at the end of the wedding video and shared her thoughts about her husband Ranveer and how he "completes" her. The actress, who avoided the Koffee Couch in the previous season, acknowledged that not many people know that Ranveer is a modest, perceptive, sensitive man who is all heart by nature. He can also cry a lot.

'Origin tale' of Ranveer-Deepika

After witnessing Deepika's performance in Cocktail, Ranveer suggested Deepika's name to director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, following Kareena Kapoor Khan's abrupt departure from Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. Ranveer attempted to put Deepika on the spot by showing her a piece of crab flesh in her teeth as she arrived at Bhansali's Versova home by the sea for a screenplay reading session. Deepika was looking stunning in a white chikankari outfit. Ranveer's heart leaped when Deepika shrewdly retaliated to force him to take it off. He was taken in by Deepika's unexpectedly carefree demeanor. After that, the pair admitted to being so "inseparable" that they had prolonged the fervent lip-lock sequence in the song "Ang Laga De" during the Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela filming.

But Deepika, who had been in a few bad relationships and wasn't seeking for commitment, said that they were "technically allowed to meet other people" until Ranveer proposed in the Maldives. How vividly Ranveer recalled Deepika's "two to three suitors" from their early dating days was quite funny.

Ranveer received an expensive engagement ring.

Even though Ranveer was still relatively new to Bollywood in 2015, he knew that Deepika was a far more successful actress than he was. Ranveer therefore went a little over and beyond his means to obtain the ring for the ladylove in an effort to wow her. Following her acceptance of the proposal and her role as "the king of the world," Deepika's family in Bangalore, particularly her mother, needed some time to adjust to Ranveer's manners. Ranveer eventually gained the family's approval and is currently one of Ujjala Padukone's favorite persons.

The famous couple's unwavering stare

As you're constantly scrutinized by society and have demanding work schedules, marriage becomes a lot of labor, Deepika stated on the program. When the partners have diverse backgrounds, it becomes more difficult. She admitted that, like any other relationship, they have their share of difficult days, but they decide to work through them as a unit and use the disagreements as opportunities to improve. And it's what has maintained the beauty of their marriage. Ranveer gives her the benefit of the doubt and couldn't agree more.

The incapacity of Ranveer to provide care and his turning point

Despite Deepika's repeated admission of the significance of mental health, this was the first time we learned about Ranveer's journey out of his state of helplessness as a "caregiver." It was particularly poignant when Deepika, devoid of all motivation to live, sobbed and was unable to provide an explanation.

After three straight failures, 83, Jayeshbhai Jordaar, and Cirkus, Ranveer, who appeared on Koffee With Karan last season with friend and co-star Alia Bhatt in Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahanii, acknowledged that the phase was unfamiliar to him and that he wasn't okay, but that he was able to accept what had happened around him in a matter of months and eventually emerged from it. At one of those low points, Deepika told him not to draw attention to himself by dressing ostentatiously because it appeared like he was attempting to cover up his lack of confidence.

The fake game was a little dull, and the rapid-fire round lacked fire.

There were a few flickers during the rapid-fire round when Ranveer begged the crowd to grant him another shot to play Shah Rukh Khan in Don 3. He urged, "Ek mauka toh banta hai." When asked who he would most like to co-star in a love triangle with Deepika, Ranveer didn't hesitate to mention Ranbir Kapoor as the modern male actor who would be best suited for a Dola remake. Additionally, it prompted him to research Karan Johar's long-term idea to reimagine Sangam starring Deepika, Ranveer, and Ranbir. Ranveer went on to say that Deepika and Shah Rukh Khan had the greatest on-screen connection. When it was Deepika's turn, she wholeheartedly concurred with Karan's assessment of her as the greatest Bollywood actress. Deepika attributes her superiority to her background and her past athletic persona as a distinction. When Deepika mentioned the name of her co-star in Fighter, Ranveer's parody of Hrithik Roshan was hilarious. The exchange concerned on-screen chemistry.

But the imposter game was boring as hell and didn't bring any extra fun.
