Malda Police Seize Rs 88,000 in Fake Currency, One Arrested

On Saturday night, the police in Malda confiscated counterfeit Indian currency notes (FICN) with a face value of Rs 88,000 after receiving a tip.

In this regard, one individual has been taken into custody.

According to sources, the district's Baishnabnagar police squad searched the NTPC Permanent Township (PTS).

They caught Jaharul Alam, a Panchanandapur citizen who is under the district's Mothabari police station. He was reportedly lingering suspiciously close to the PTS rail gate.

"During his frisking, 176 counterfeit 500-rupee bills were discovered on him. He may be connected to a ring that distributes FICN, according to a police officer.

Approximately Rs 6 lakh in face value worth of FICN has been taken from Malda district police stations in the last month.

There are also FICN with a denomination of Rs 200. The officer said, "This is concerning.

Make an arrest

Biswajeet Murmu, 26, of Kumarganj was apprehended by BSF troops from the 91st battalion stationed at the Kamdevpur border outpost at the India-Bangladesh border in South Dinajpur. According to BSF authorities, Murmu was accused of attempting to smuggle 198 cough syrup bottles to Bangladesh.
