Over 30 years after it was first recorded, a long-lost album by the late Pakistani singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is about to be released, according to a social media announcement made by his estate on his official account.

The release of Chain of Light, a lost album by the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan & Party, is something we are really delighted to announce today. On September 20, 2024, @realworldrec will release it, the user stated on Instagram.

Chain of Light was first recorded by Khan in April 1990 at Real World Studios. The album was misplaced in warehouse storage, according to Peter Gabriel's Real World Records, and it wasn't until the company relocated their collection in 2021 that it was discovered again. There are four qawwals on the CD, including one that has never been released before.

While collaborating with guitarist and producer Michael Brook on the 1990 album Mustt Mustt, the vocalist recorded the song Chain of Light.

Peter Gabriel recently showed his support for Khan in a statement. "I've had the honor of working with a vast number of international musicians, but Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was arguably the best vocalist of them all. Gabriel expressed his joy upon finding the long-forgotten recording in their library. "His voice could evoke extraordinary emotions, and we were proud to help bring his music to a wider global audience," Gabriel said. "Khan is at the top of his game on this record. It's an incredible record," he continued.

Khan, who was born in 1948 in Faisalabad, captivated listeners all over the world with his passionate voice that cut over linguistic and cultural boundaries. He gained international recognition and popularized Qawwali thanks to his exceptional ability to combine classical and modern components. The vocalist worked with a number of musicians over the course of his career, such as Michael Brook and Peter Gabriel, which increased his impact in a variety of musical genres.
