Action Spectacle Ceasefire Beats Blockbusters, Dunki Disappoints Despite Shah Rukh Khan Power
Salaar, Prabhas' most recent action film, Part 1 — After a day of its Friday release, box office data tracking platform Sacnilk released early estimates, and Ceasefire beat blockbusters like Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan and Pathaan and Ranbir Kapoor's Animal to become the biggest opening of 2023 in India.
Early estimates show that the Prashanth Neel-directed film, which also starred Prithviraj Sukumaran in a significant role, took in Rs 95 crore on its first day of business in India. There may be a slight variation in the makers' final figures.
Prior to this, Shah Rukh's Jawan had the greatest opening ever, earning Rs 75 crore on its first day of sales. On its first day of release in India, his Pathaan brought in Rs 57 crore. Globally, both movies surpassed the Rs 1000-crore threshold.
Dunki, Shah Rukh's third release of the year, opened in theaters on Thursday, but its Day 1 box office receipts fell short of those of Jawan and Pathaan. With collections of Rs 29.20 crore nett on Day 1 and Rs 20 crore nett on Day 2, the Rajkumar Hirani-directed film has made a total of Rs 49.20 crore nett at the domestic box office.
With Salaar, Prabhas, who was let down by his last movie Adipurush, plays the lead. The plot centers on two friends who have turned into rivals in a political setting. In the film, Prithviraj plays Varadharaja Mannar, Salaar's friend, who fights for control of the made-up city of Khansaar.
