Pune Teenager in Fatal Accident: Father Detained, Bar Staff Arrested

Officials reported on Tuesday that police had taken into custody the father of a 17-year-old boy who was reportedly engaged in an automobile accident in Pune that claimed the lives of two people. They also detained three executives of two hotels for allegedly giving the minor alcohol.

Officials said that in the early hours of Sunday morning, two motorbike riders in Pune's Kalyani Nagar district died after being struck by a Porsche driven by a 17-year-old who was apparently intoxicated at the time.

Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar stated, "We have detained the father of the teenager from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. He is being brought to Pune and will be arrested in the case registered against him."

Additionally, according to Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Shailesh Balkawade, the Pune police have detained Hotel Blak manager Sandip Sangle, manager Sachin Katkar, and owner Pralhad Bhutda for allegedly giving the minor alcohol.

"All will be produced in a court later in the day," he stated.

According to authorities, the accused youngster traveled to the two businesses on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday with his companions between 9.30 pm and 1 am and reportedly consumed alcohol.

"It is evident from the bar's CCTV footage that the minor was drinking. Without a doubt, the young person was operating the vehicle after drinking alcohol. All of these facts would be presented to the court, as police commissioner Kumar had already stated.

In accordance with sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act, the police had filed a complaint against the teen's father, a real estate developer, as well as against the proprietors and employees of the bars for providing alcohol to minors.

An previous official stated that the criminal branch had taken over the investigation into these cases.

When it comes to "willful neglect of a child, or exposing a child to mental or physical illnesses," section 75 covers it, and section 77 deals with giving a child alcohol or substances that are harmful to them.

As per the formal complaint filed over the incident, the father provided his son the car even though he knew he didn't have a legal license, putting his life in danger, and let him go to parties even though he knew he was an alcohol consumer.

On Sunday morning, at approximately 3:15 a.m., a group of friends were riding their motorcycles back from a party when a speeding Porsche struck one of the bikes at the Kalyani Nagar intersection.

Anis Awadhiya and Ashwini Costa, two 24-year-old Madhya Pradesh-born IT professionals, passed away from their wounds, according to the police.

After the boy was brought before the Juvenile Justice Board, hours later, the board granted him bail. In addition, it instructed him to study traffic laws at the Regional Transport Office and deliver a presentation to the Board in a span of 15 days.

"The CCL (Child in Conflict with Law) will write an essay of 300 words on the topic of road accidents and their solutions," the request stated.

Police claim that the child is the subject of a case under the Motor Vehicles Act and section 304 of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with culpable homicide that does not amount to murder.

On Monday, the police said that they would ask a higher court to grant them authorization to trial the accident-related teenager as an adult.
