Reacher Stars Dish on Passion, Stunts, and Enduring Chill (Even in LA!)

Reacher, a phenomenal Prime Video series based on the best-selling books of Lee Child, is currently available for streaming on Season 2. t2 caught up for a quick video conversation with the show's cast members Maria Sten (Frances Neagley), Shaun Sipos (David O'Donnell), and Serinda Swan (who plays Karla Dixon).

The Reacher series' author, Lee Child, informed me a few days ago that all of the Reacher team members are enthusiasts for the character and his exploits. Does that mean that the three of you? Why did you decide to join Reacher?

Serinda Swan: I believe you are entering an established franchise, though. Having so much material to draw from when creating a character is, in my opinion, really beneficial. We all work together to create this wild, crazy show in a kind of enjoyable family atmosphere, and I believe that really supports the efforts that we are all making. But generally speaking, it's really beneficial to jump right into a world that has already been established for you.

And the personas! Though this is my first season on the show, Karla (Dixon, played by Serinda) and Neagley (Frances Neagley, played by Maria Sten) have a long history together. Thus, it's wonderful to be able to connect with Maria in such a lovely way, and everyone is so lovely. And Shaun (David O'Donnell, portrayed by Sipos). This season, we are the newcomers to the show. I also adore Shaun. Canadians are known for picking on one another! (laughs)

When you are passionate about what you do and collaborating to achieve a common objective, it is truly remarkable. Furthermore, you don't get to collaborate with people you truly love very often. It has been a lot of fun. Also, Karla is fierce. I adore that Lee Child created these incredibly smart female characters with amazing skill sets that go beyond mere appearances. For that, I adore Lee Child. That, in my opinion, is such a kind and wonderful thing to do to help us fill these shoes.
Shaun Sipos: The simplicity of the show is why I truly like it. Our world is so confusing that a lot of people say to themselves, "I can't step in and do anything," when they see something wrong. And when you switch on this show, you see Reacher or any of us noticing something, and we say, "No, we're going to fix that right now." That is incorrect! Therefore, I believe that watching it helps you unwind—at least for me—because you think, "Oh yeah, of course that makes sense." There are never any gray areas where you have to say, "I'm not sure what to do." Was that acceptable? You think, "That guy is bad." And they are receiving what is due to them.

What has been the most important lesson you have all learned while working on this series?

Maria Sten: Manoeuvres. Acquiring knowledge of fight choreography and its uniqueness to correspond with each of our roles.
Serinda: Rediscovering my love for wintertime shooting! I literally said to myself as I was leaving Toronto, "I'm done." It's chilly. I'd rather not do this. Our showrunner, Nick Santara, then declared, "We are going to shoot it in Toronto, but the book is set in Los Angeles!" And I exclaimed, "Learn curve!" (laughs) This season, we were chilly—both physically and emotionally!
Shaun It also makes me laugh. By the way, the stunt team performed a fantastic job. These guys are the real stars of the show, in my opinion, and they don't get nearly enough credit for what they accomplish.
