Tuesday afternoon, Shreyas Iyer was taken off guard by a delivery from the throwdown specialist that came up from a fair length location and struck him on the right forearm. He had only been facing a few deliveries from him before. Shreyas groaned in agony, dropped his bat on the ground, gripped his hand, and went to see the physiotherapist.

He attempted to bat again a short while later, but failed, and finally left. Head coach Rahul Dravid was left with a furrowed brow as he stepped away from the nets to assess the severity of the injury after the concerning indications.

To the satisfaction of the team management, Shreyas returned to batting after the ice pack eased him of part of his pain. The Indian top-order seems to be in transition with KL Rahul moving up to No. 4 before Shreyas enters the field after Virat Kohli opted to withdraw from the first two Tests of the series for "personal reasons." Rajat Patidar, a rookie, joined the team quite belatedly.

With the exception of Rohit Sharma, the top-5 players in India have played 85 Tests together. Uninspiring news for a club that hasn't lost a series at home since 2012–13, as they take on an England team that is winning because to head coach Brendon McCullum's Bazball philosophy, which is being led by captain Ben Stokes.

High scoring, aggressive play, and putting all the pressure on the opposition before the script is turned is the Bazball strategy's top priorities. The series against predicted rank turner pitches will be the largest test of this master design. Will Rohit's group, however, adhere to the tried-and-true strategy that has enabled them to succeed at home?

According to the first inspection, the surface at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal may be a slow turner, which won't be helpful to the spinners in the opening session.

To bond the surface, the grass on the pitch's ends has been shaved, with a little amount of grass remaining in the center.

By early evening, the ground crew was sparingly watering the whole area to provide a hint of mystery as some places seem drier than others.

Two days before to kickoff, head coach Rahul Dravid said, "Hard one to say." From what I've seen, it seems to be a nice one. may rotate a little. I'm not sure how swiftly or how rapidly. however as the game progresses, it could spin a little bit for sure.

Dravid confirmed the January 14 article from The Telegraph, which said that KL Rahul will play as a specialist batsman, with youngster Dhruv Jurel or KS Bharat handling wicketkeeping responsibilities. The think-tank will start with three spinners and two pacers, Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah, barring any last-minute changes.

Rahul, of course, performed well for us in South Africa... However, taking into account the five Test matches... we believed that, given the circumstances and the weather, we would choose a different keeping option. Thus, it's clear that the two other keepers are in a tie for first place, Dravid said.

In the Bazball era, England had a higher strike-rate of 75.48 with the bat than India did at 54.57. McCullum has said that his strategies would save Test cricket, but how well they work out on Indian surfaces may be a major factor in how effective they are.
