Sutapa Sikdar remembered her late husband Irrfan Khan on Wednesday, recalling how life has changed for her since the actor’s passing four years ago and imagining a conversation between the two in 2024.
“It’s 4 years three days since Irrfan left me. Four years? I feel a wave of guilt pass through me. We have LIVED without him for four years, along with a great deal of helplessness, fear, sadness, and hopelessness. Subsequently, I contemplated that I continued to live with him. With a photo of herself and Irrfan posted on Facebook, Sutapa wrote, "I knew him since 1984, so that makes it 36 years of knowing him more and definitely till I die I would have spent more time with him then without him."
April 29, 2020 was Irrfan's passing date from a protracted fight with neuroendocrine cancer.
She went on to depict how their chats would sound had Irrfan been alive today. Sutapa imagined Irfan coming home from work, lost in a book and taking care of their cat. She also imagined how Irrfan would have admired Diljit Dosanjh's performance in Chamkila and expressed his desire to work in a Malayalam film featuring Fahadh Faasil.
In a related homage, Babil Khan, the late actor's son, honored his father's memory by sharing a number of pictures of him. In a touching speech, he committed to uphold his father's life lessons, vowing to continue the fight for their shared ideals and community.
You showed me how to fight like a warrior while yet showing compassion and love. You taught me of optimism and you taught me to fight for the people. You do not have fans, you have a family, and I promise you baba I will fight for our people and our family till you call upon me. I refuse to give up. I adore you a great deal, Babil wrote.
