TMC Leader Mahua Moitra Defies ED Summons, Focuses on Campaigning in Krishnanagar

Mahua Moitra, the leader of the TMC, has said that she would campaign in her Krishnanagar seat on Thursday, ignoring the summons from the Enforcement Directorate for her to come in for an interrogation at the ED headquarters in New Delhi.

She informed reporters, "I will be going out to campaign in the Krishnangar constituency in the afternoon."

Moitra and businessman Darshan Hiranandani, who resides in Dubai, have received further summonses from the Enforcement Directorate to appear in court on a potential violation of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).

The 49-year-old head of the Trinamool Congress was summoned twice before for interrogation by the federal agency. However, she refused to appear, claiming her official duties, and requested a postponement of the notice.

In the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, Moitra, who was dismissed from the Lok Sabha in December due to "unethical conduct," has been renominated by her party from the Krishnanagar seat in West Bengal.

After anti-corruption watchdog Lokpal ordered the federal agency to look into the accusations made against her by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) searched her home in relation to the cash-for-query issue on Saturday.

Moitra has denied any misconduct.
