BJP's Basirhat Candidate Rekha Patra Launches Campaign Amidst Support from Sandeshkhali Protesters

The BJP's Basirhat candidate, Rekha Patra, began her campaign for the election on Wednesday from Sandeshkhali and greeted her fellow warriors, who were involved in the agitation on the isolated island against the alleged crimes of Trinamul.

"Hundreds of people, including women, showed me tremendous support in my hometown. I got to know everyone involved in our campaign against the horrors in Trinamul. "It's clear from the love and blessings I received today that Basirhat is with us," said Patra, who started her campaign the day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi called her and referred to her as Shakti Swaroopa.

BJP officials believe that the party's decision to field the young protesting lady from Sandeshkhali is a brilliant move aimed at pressuring the Mamata Banerjee administration about the atrocities committed against women. Women voted in significant numbers for the Trinamul Party in the 2021 Assembly votes, aiding in the party's electoral sweep.

Patra arrived at Sandeshkhali on Wednesday morning. She was one among the ladies spearheading the campaign against the suspected atrocities committed by the detained Trinamul leader Sheikh Shahjahan and his allies, including Shiba Prasad Hazara and Uttam Sardar.

Once she arrived at Sandeshkhali ferry-ghat aboard a motorized boat, some 500 ladies greeted her by blowing conch shells and petals from flowers.

Senior BJP leader from Sandeshkhali, Anup Kumar Das, said that she began the campaign with her fellow fighters and vowed to lead the Sandeshkhali movement in ending Trinamul's reign of terror in the outlying villages prior to Shahjahan's arrest.

"She was at Sandeshkhali much of the time campaigning with her fellow warriors. "She asked them to make sure she won the election, and the people of Sandeshkhali promised to support her throughout the fight," Das said.

Before addressing the residents of Sandeshkhali, the epicenter of the protest that made national news and sparked a movement against the governing Trinamul Congress, she performed puja at two temples on the island.

Following more than two and a half hours of touring around Sandeshkhali, Rekha made sure to catch up with her protest companions from the very beginning.

"There were four or five of us with Rekha, including myself. I went with her the next time she went to the police to file a complaint against the horrible Trinamul leader. That she came to my door to greet me makes me extremely pleased. We all promised to support her during her election campaign and see to it that she won," Rekha's fellow combatant said.

In Sarberia, the hometown of the detained Trinamul leader Shahjahan, Trinamul organized a sizable parade in favor of its candidate, Haji Nurul Islam, on the same day as the BJP candidate began her campaign from Sandeshkhali.

Rekha was brought to Kalyani-AIIMS after reporting unwell later on the day of her first campaign, according to a BJP source.
